Wildfire Fuel/Fire Break Establishment
Establishing defensible space to keep your property and home protected and safe from wildfires!
Service Description
Every property is laid out differently and will require a unique wildfire prevention plan depending on the density of the underbrush, trees and the terrain. In Washington state, establishing wildfire breaks not only protect your property against wildfire but they also create enhanced access/use of your land for you as well as for wildlife. It's a win win for everyone! A defensible fire break is a buffer created between a building on your property and the grass, trees, shrubs, or any wildland area that surround it. Defensible fire breaks can also be established around the perimeter of your property. This space is needed to slow or stop the spread of wildfire approaching from bordering land or properties. These fire breaks help protect your property and home from catching fire, either from embers, direct flame contact or radiant heat. Proper defensible space also provides firefighters a safe area to work in, to defend your home on the event of a fire. Some of the benefits include but are not limited to, greater safety to fire fighters by creating a defensible area, wildfire hazards are reduced, reduced intensity of wildfire, trees typically respond to increased growing space with improved growth, improved land access and use as well as improved visual quality of your property. We start the process with an on-site assessment so we can come up with an accurate working plan that will best suite your particular property. Once the proposed working fire prevention plan is set, the work will begin. Underbrush, shrubs, tree limbs and trees will be removed, mulched or thinned to increase the distance not only between trees, but vertically as well to ensure proper that the proper minimum horizontal and vertical clearances are met. The type of underbrush and trees as well as the steepness of any slopes that my be within the working area will determine the minimum allowable horizontal and vertical clearances. Any mulched material will be gathered and spread in designated areas away from the newly established fire breaks. Medium to large trees will be hauled away. The end product will provide your property the protection it needs against wildfires as well as ease of future maintenance. If you have any specific questions or are ready to schedule your FREE on-site assessment, give us a call today!
